Mission
Some people at the east end of the sea of grass have noticed a glacier near them glowing, weather has become erratic and impossible to predict near the area as well. This has concerned them, and they would like some people to do a proper look at the area and find out if anything cataclysmic is about to happen. They are happy for said people to simply run away and bring word of impending doom if that is the case, but would like details at least, and a solution if it is less problematic than impending doom.

Appetizer

Remel shuffled into the meeting room and was greeted by many familiar faces—and one new one. Uthgard, giant in stature (and likely in appetite), stood out immediately. We sat, introduced ourselves, and, to my delight, no one had any difficult dietary requirements. That meant I’d be free to experiment with some exciting new recipes.

Before long, Guild security interrupted our discussion, sliding a guild contract onto the table. We filled it out and appointed the necessary roles just as our employer was ushered in.

Kerekes Zsolt, a well-dressed man from the distant city of Falogosin, located in the far side of the Sea of Grass, entered alongside Chotan Tabryn, a mage of quiet demeanour. Kerekes took a seat and explained the purpose of his journey: he had come to hire a party to investigate a mystery. In recent weeks, settlements near a remote mountain glacier have reported seeing bright lights emanating from it at night—visible from many miles away. Scouts had been sent, but they couldn’t make it far through the dense forest at the base of the mountain, hindered by wolves, giants, walking trees, and other dangers. There was nothing in the region’s history or recent events that could explain the glacier’s glowing. Kerekes hoped we might succeed where others failed, and determine if it is the sign of an pending apocalypse.

He and Chotan offered to transport us back to Falagosis via cloud travel once we were ready. After the meeting, they departed into Seagate, and the party began preparations. Remel headed into town with Snowdrop to gather supplies for the journey. Payment had been deposited, 10,000sp eac so we used some of that to get Greaters.h

The next morning, Remel prepared a hearty breakfast: freshly squeezed blood orange juice served alongside an amuse-bouche of smoked salmon tartare on buckwheat blinis, topped with crème fraiche and caviar, and silky truffle-scrambled eggs with a delicate soufflé pancake that are dusted with edible petals and bergamot syrup. Well fed and ready, Chotan summoned an enormous cloud, and we set off into the sky. The cloud looked, and flew like a galloping horse, not like the fluffy soft clouds we were used to. Plus it was cloudy all the way.

Drinking

After a slightly turbulent descent—our cloud buffeted by a nearby storm—we touched down on the outskirts of Falagosin , a town built mostly in the side of a hill. A contingent of riders met us promptly and escorted our party into the city. To the south, ominous violet flashes lit the sky, pulsing within the storm clouds like bruises on the heavens. The ambient mana felt strange—dense and electric, as though the air itself were holding its breath. There was also some sort of celestial taint,

Upon entering Reshana, the city's bustling inner district, it was clear the storm weighed heavily on the townsfolk. The rain was normal, the mana level was normal and there was a purple glow in the clouds Unease lingered in their expressions and conversations. We found lodging at a charming tavern called The Rampant Sheep, where we enjoyed a hearty dinner and shared drinks with a group of local mercenaries. (and the communal baths - luxury) They spoke of the wilds beyond the forest’s edge—of vine boars, walking trees, cancerous plants, and other strange beasts. None had dared venture as deep into the woods as we planned.

Remel, ever the culinary enthusiast, sampled a local specialty: a fiercely cold, enchanted drink served in a thick stone mug. The moment it passed his lips, he claimed to feel thirty years younger, bursting with energy that carried him through the night as he mingled with the locals. From their stories, he gleaned several useful insights:

  • Access to the High Markets is tightly restricted, though a costly intermediary might be able to act on our behalf.
  • No local scholar is versed in the area’s magical history.
  • Several powerful mages reside in the city—elementalists and enchanters with names like High Mountain.
  • The violet storm may be the work of an immensely powerful spellcaster.
  • The remarkable drink he enjoyed cannot be recreated easily; it requires rare magical expertise and should not be consumed again for at least a year (otherwise it will kill you.)

The next day, we explored the vibrant streets of Falagosin. At one point, a group of thieves seemed to reconsider mugging Remel at the last moment—perhaps sensing his renewed vitality. Uthgard attempted to converse with a local fire mage, but the exchange ended in confusion. It was evident he, Regu, doesn't like halfling ice mages. Dunno why. I certainly didn't do anything. That evening, Uthgard, Arcadia, and Snowdrop found solace watching the stars, letting the strange energies of the storm swirl behind them.

Come morning, after the party weave magics, Remel prepared a simple yet exquisite breakfast: airy Etherflour Brioche, baked from skywheat and served with shimmering starlight butter and rich sylvan berry preserves. Alongside it, he plated Gilded Trout Medallions, crusted with golden almonds and glazed in whisperwine, served with a chilled glass of sky-mango juice—a quiet moment of luxury before we pressed on into the unknown. You need a better lock on your pantry Remel. Sky-mango juice makes a refreshing light sorbet.

Coloured Lighting

The storm we had watched so anxiously from Falagosin continued its furious assault on the mountains, flashing with violet fire and clawing at the peaks with wind and lightning. Given our lack of reliable flying experience—especially in such conditions—we agreed to approach the mountain range cautiously from the north. Our plan was to land well outside the storm’s reach and make approach on foot.

The journey through the valley took three arduous days. As we climbed, we witnessed lightning of many colours, and most unsettling of all, black lightning, which always seemed to strike the sky directly above us. Happy was very excited by the lightning. He wasn't the only one. On the second day, cresting a narrow ridge, Uthgard was caught dangerously close to a lightning strike that shattered a nearby outcropping. Though the blast flung her to the ground and scorched her armour, she brushed it off with typical stoicism after downing a healing potion.

Concerningly, Thanos insisted on scampering up the newly shattered rocks to gather fragments of the lightning-scorched stone. Though we all held our breath, half expecting another strike to claim him, he returned unscathed, clutching his prize. Throughout these days, we also noticed that the ambient mana in the air felt strangely attuned: more favourable to those with celestial and fire magic.

On the morning of the fourth day, breakfast was a simple meal; fluffy herb-infused omelets stuffed with smoked trout and wild mushrooms, served alongside freshly baked flatbread toasted over coals and drizzled with spiced honey. The warm meal filled the camp with rich, comforting aromas that banished the morning chill. We entered the dense forest at the mountain’s foot. The air was damp, heavy with mossy scent, and dark even at midday beneath the canopy. It wasn’t long before we stumbled upon an unexpected encounter: a band of minotaurs, heavily armed and proficient with magic. Tension crackled in the clearing as both groups sized each other up, weapons half-drawn and spells whispered under breath.

Thankfully, sense prevailed. We sheathed our weapons and settled around their campfire, exchanging wary introductions and stories. They told us they’d travelled from the north to investigate the same strange, multicolored glow on the glacier that had drawn us here. They were well-versed in battle and magic, and when Remel peered at them with his practiced eye for auras, he found something deeply curious: their origin read as Plane: "None", and one among them carried a rare and ominous power known as the Grasp of the Ebony Void. Their earnestness reminded Remel of the adventurers of his youth — brimming with enthusiasm, ambition, and untested belief in their own strength.

Spicy Course

Berserking Minotaurs

Our quiet council around the minotaurs’ campfire was abruptly shattered by the blast of horns echoing through the dark woods. A wave of strange magic washed over us in an instant—its effect chilling and immediate. The spell had stolen our ability to speak many languages, making coordination with the minotaurs impossible at the worst possible time.

From the shadowed tree line came shouted goblin commands, barked in harsh, guttural tones. The snow, already falling thick, was reducing visibility. Through the swirling white, magical fire erupted, arcing into the camp with deadly precision.

Confusion spread quickly. The minotaurs, cut off from one another by language and visibility, lost all sense of order. Some flew into berserk rages, attacking anything nearby—including us. Their strength was terrifying, but their lack of military coordination made them easy prey for the disciplined goblin assault. One by one they fell, cut down by blades or consumed by fire. It was only Uthgard's mind speech that allowed us to coordinate our actions.

Thanos insisted we fight and the minotaur, convinced they were part of the goblin ambush, ignoring the shouted advice to fall back from the berserkers. Meanwhile, Boom and Arcadia, charged out of the camp and gave chase to their mounted scouts—spider-riding goblins weaving between the trees like nightmare cavalry.

The party found itself fighting on two fronts, battling through ice and fire grenados, lightning striking from the sky, and claws and teeth in the swirling snow. Arcadia and Uthgard fought side by side, Remel hurled spells into the storm, and Thanos flung dart after dart until he was finally knocked unconscious. Ash, Boom Boom, and Snowdrop fought valiantly, cutting down goblins one by one.

At last, the tide turned. The goblins and their monstrous allies were overcome, their ambush broken. The party regrouped amidst the wreckage, taking some minutes to drink the restorative draughts concocted by Remel. A search of the battlefield revealed that the surviving minotaurs had already cleared away the remains of their own camp, as well as the shattered husk of the fallen golem.

We pressed on through the snow-drenched forest and soon came upon the charred remains of a fortified goblin encampment. The minotaurs had found the catapult and destroyed it, along with the goblins manning it. At the centre of the ruined camp stood a summoning pentagram—and seated calmly within it, a blackened kobold with a smug expression. He claimed the goblins had been meddling with summoning rituals and that he had slipped through the rift they opened. His master, he said, was a being of the Void, sent him here to watch, and the mere utterance brings the party great pain. He smiled as he explained he was here only to observe, baffled by Thanos’ behaviour. "You mean nothing to my master," he said. We chose not to engage further. Leaving the kobold in his circle, we continued our trek toward the glacier.

Palate Cleanser

Simple meal

We follow the stream out of the village, its path winding steadily toward the distant glacier. After about an hour, the terrain shifts—thick forest encloses us and the stream swells into a flooded expanse. Murky water creeps to our knees, and each step through the thick mud sucks at our boots. Despite the weariness, we press on, unease growing. Shadows flicker at the edge of vision—distant movements we can’t quite place. We are not alone.

Eventually, drenched and cold, we reach the base of the glacier. A rocky shelf, twenty feet wide and mercifully solid, skirts along the glacier’s face, granting us a moment’s respite from the mud. We examine the glacier and it has a surprising magical aura, its it celestial infused and associated with a Power, yet to be named.

Snowdrop takes the lead, gracefully scaling the icy slope using her ice traversal magic. What would have been a grueling climb becomes deceptively manageable—until two ice elementals erupt from the glacier without warning. Their jagged limbs pierce and tear with brutal precision. The party reels from the assault, staggered and bloodied, but Boomboom unleashes a devastating counterattack—his fire-wreathed blade and incendiary grenados making short work of the icy foes.

We barely have time to catch our breath before the glacier face gives way beneath us. The entire party tumbles in a chaotic slide of snow and rock. Bruised and battered, we spend the next several minutes drinking Waters of Healing by the gallon, before cautiously attempting the climb once more. This time, wary and methodical, we reach the summit without incident.

Atop the glacier, the air is thin and clear, the oppressive fog of the forest left far below. The entire area glows from light emitting from the glacier. The view takes our breath away -- miles ahead, almost a mile wide, light emerge from the glacier with ever-shifting hues of colour. On the ice sits an enormous net, almost a thousand feet wide of unknown design. Nearby, two towering mechanical constructs, spider-like in form, stand sentinel.

We estimate a four-hour trek lies between us and the sphere, but the climb has drained us. We are pleasantly surprised when we discover we are in a high mana zone. With a four hour walk ahead of us we decide to pause to recover—and to eat.

Lunch is simple, yet remarkable. A fresh trout is seared over a small flame, its skin crisping beautifully, the flesh seasoned with lemon zest, salt, and crushed juniper berries. A pat of wild herb butter—crafted earlier with foraged garlic, parsley, and smoked paprika—melts luxuriously over the fillet. Flatbread is baked on a hot stone, puffing up with smoke-kissed blisters. We share a warm salad of dandelion greens, fiddlehead ferns, and shaved root vegetables, tossed in olive oil and cider vinegar, with a touch of flaky salt.

Frozen dish

With our appetites sated and spirits high, we set off under the shroud of Walk Unseen, heading toward the distant glow at the glacier’s centre. The journey is long—five hours of silent, careful progress—before shadowy shapes begin to emerge on the horizon. At first, they are little more than dark silhouettes in the white expanse, but as we close the distance, they take form. Cresting a rise, we nearly stumble straight into them: a patrol of frost giants, trolls, and strange spider-like creatures with unnervingly long necks.

Only luck, and the cover of our magic, spares us from detection. Arcadia soon discovers the region channels celestial power, making it far easier for her to cast spells here. Boom Boom, meanwhile, notes a lesser—but still tangible—bonus to fire magic.

An hour later, the looming outline of a mechanical ship comes into view, situated near the massive net. Dozens of figures scurry along the net’s edge, working with purpose. A small outpost and watchpoint crown a rocky outcrop nearby, giving them a perfect vantage over the entire area. There are almost a hundred figures here, It’s a force that would crush us in a direct assault. We debate our options at length—until one of the great mechanical ships flies low overhead, its shadow sweeping across us. That decides it. We move quickly.

Slipping past the patrols, we push south for several more hours, eventually leaving the net far behind. Only then do we dare make camp. The night passes tensely, and at first light, Snowdrop begins tunneling. After an hour of squeezing through the low, claustrophobic passage, we emerge gratefully into a series of natural caves—Uthgard most of all.

Horrific vision

The place is strange and beautiful: jagged crystals jut from the walls, each slick with droplets of water that patter softly to the stone floor. Boom Boom, with his usual recklessness, wonders aloud if the water is safe to drink. Remel, horrified, casts a vision to show him what would happen if he drank a full pint. The image is seared into our minds: Boom Boom levitating, body wreathed in a swirling aura of flame, with fiery tentacles lashing violently outward to annihilate everything nearby. Boom Boom stares, speechless. Remel is satisfied—the point has been made.

Then Norto drinks.

The change is immediate. His eyes harden, his stance turns predatory, and a low growl rises from his throat. Uthgard tries to use magic to control him, but Norto is unaffected and lunges for her neck. The cavern erupts in chaos. We wrestle Norto to the ground, Ashe magically binds him. We example with water carefully and the truth becomes clear: the water is tainted with an eldritch influence. Once Norto calmed and the party is healed, we press onward through the winding caves, heading north toward the source of the mysterious glow.

Main Course - (a giant omelet?)

The party steps into an enormous cavern, where the oppressive darkness feels almost tangible against our skin as we move cautiously along an uneven path. The trail winds precariously through the void, with sheer drops plunging away on either side.

At the very edge of our vision, movement stirs—three skeletons, grotesquely entwined with writhing tentacles. They hurl volleys of bone shards that tear through the party, each strike draining life from those it wounds. With the gulf of a chasm separating us from them, no easy path forward is clear. Arcadia, undaunted, makes the daring decision: we fire-arc across into the shadows.

Arcadia casting Whitefire

Remel, Ash, Norto, Arcadia, and Luna land in the heart of a nightmare. A dozen skeletons of varying size close in, their tentacles lashing and writhing hungrily. But worse still is the sight at the cavern’s center—a vast, blood-drenched pentagram (Are you sure it only had five sides?) encircling a monstrous egg, over eight feet tall. Beside it looms the largest of the skeletal horrors, chanting dark magic into the pulsing shell. There's tainted treasure in that 'pentagram' as well..

The battle erupts in blood and chaos. The rest of the party fire-arc across to join the fray as the skeletons swarm us, their draining strikes gnawing at our strength. Thanos summons stone golems, and though they weather brutal blows, the stone is tainted with eldritch corruption. The eldritch corrupted stone feeds back through his link and shreds his mind-shield, quickly leeching away his life force and warping his body until tentacles writhe from his form.

The fighting rages, brutal and unrelenting. One by one the skeletons fall, but the cost is staggering. Remel lies unconscious, Luna barely clings to life, and Thanos is corrupted beyond recognition. Much of our healing is already spent.

Desperation drives Arcadia to act—she unleashes whitefire, one of her most difficult spells, at the skeletal priest channeling power into the egg. To our immense relief the skeleton is disintegrated by the power of the sun which bounces on the rest of the opposition resulting in all of them being destroyed. Arcadia deserves some sort of award for that in my opinion.. Suddenly, the cavern blazes with blinding light. When our sight returns, we are no longer underground. The party finds itself standing on the surface of the glacier—beside us rests the egg.

Spicy Desert

Having taken time to recover from our wounds, we turned our attention to the strange egg. From our examination, we believed it would hatch within a day—and that it contained nothing less than a celestial dragon with avatar power. A pentagram etched into the floor around the egg was channelling corruption directly into it. BoomBoom boils away the blood that powered the sigil until it dissolved. Even cleansed, the egg radiated immense power. None of us could touch it safely—save for Arcadia. Her celestial affinity allowed her to handle it without being consumed by whitefire. Reaching out with her gift, she discovered the dragon within was not corrupted; its mind lay still, quietly awaiting the moment of hatching.

The pentagram was not without reward. Within its bounds we found piles of silver and a number of items—though each bore a trace of corruption, a faint curse of ill luck. We set about clearing our sacks to make room for the hoard. Thanos was able to itemise the larger pieces, a set of plate armor and a heavy sword, so we can carry more.

Realizing that the net stretched across the surface was directly above the egg, we chose to remain and witness its hatching and try to warn the dragon about the egg. When the moment came, it was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The egg erupted in a blinding flash of light, fragments scattering like shooting stars. In an instant, the dragon burst upward, burning straight through the stone ceiling. We glimpsed it only briefly before it vanished into the sky, the tattered remains of the net fluttering in its wake.

Thanos, ever the bold, gathered shards of the broken shell despite the warnings. The whitefire within consumed him instantly, and he fell lifeless at our feet. Climbing through the tunnels, we emerged on the surface. There, far above, the tiny form of the dragon wheeled in the heavens, pursued by one of the mechanical ships. The weather was eerily calm, yet we sensed the storm was shifting. Its shape twisted unnaturally, preparing to ravage the land around us. Escape on foot was impossible. Though some among us were poor flyers, we had no choice but to shadow our wings and fly back toward Reshana. At last we reached the city. We sought out Kerekes and recounted our tale. Snowdrop, ever the storyteller, delivered a passionate, enthusiastic account of our adventures, while Uthgard, the soldier, reported the facts with cold precision.

The next day, we boarded a cloud and made our way back to the Guild, arriving by afternoon. Divinations and curse removes are followed by one last meal from Remel.
