Fairy Rings

Fairy Rings are portals that allow access from a World to the Fae Ethereal the border between the Fae realms.

They take the shape of a ring of plants, most commonly mushrooms (which will be used as examples throughout this document) but tree's and twists of grass have also been documented. The ring is often a circle but not always and this can form a trap for the unwary.

From the outside the ring will look perfectly ordinary. To enter the ring a creature simply walks between two of the mushrooms. Once the border is crossed however the creature will be in a misty and disorientating land. The only exit from the circle is back between the same mushrooms. Exiting via any other direction will leave the creature wandering the Fae Ethereal until they fall asleep, never to wake again. The major problem for non-Fae is that they are unable to see the mushrooms once the border has been crossed and so are easily lost, The fae can see the mushrooms and so enter and exit as they wish (as long as they have a good memory.
