Elven Ways
The term covers a wide variety of transport mechanisms that allowed for swift communication and travel across the elven empire, both to many locations on Alusia, and a number of the Worlds of the Aether.
Many were damaged or destroyed in the elven civil war. Some have been repaired since that time, while others remain dormant, or have been claimed by others, or reclaimed by former owners.
There are several known types of Elven Ways involving liminal-travel. These include:
- Fixed shadow or under-realm roads that pass between or around the mortal worlds.
- Re-purposed fey roads, ghost roads, greenways, or corpse-ways.
- Anchored ley lines.
Though arguably separate, the term also gets applied to:
- Fast portals
- Slow portals
- Fast paths such as the water path from Terranova to the Elven Isles.
An element common to all of these is their fixed or partially fixed nature. This can be contrasted with the wider use of the Astral or Ethereal planes for travel, or similar interstitial areas such as the Lands of Chaos.
