The last work of Karthraxis of Lirenkhandar. He was a gifted natural philosopher and this work is supposed to explore the nature of a grain of time. This is Karthraxis' term for the smallest discrete unit of time. Contemporaries have recorded that he claimed that such a unit was atomic, and that collections of these grains of time propagated through a fluid medium which create the events of which, ultimately, we are aware.
The work was believed to explain the interactions between these atomic units of time, to describe their interactions and to offer evidence in support of his theories.
Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire. Karthraxis, himself, lost his own life to the same sudden and unexplained conflagration.
Rumours of the work surviving persist, but are either an attempt at reconstruction by one of the great thinker's students or more commonly, counterfeits produced by the unscrupulous. Anyone finding a credible copy of the work would be able to sell it for the price of a small kingdom.
