Sanctuary Elysium Fields

Elysium is a new part of town, created from the countryside when a satellite village and several large manors were incorporated into Sanctuary in the rebuilding of the wall. The mature trees still screen the smell and sight of Sanctuary, but less effectively now. Several attempts to wall Elysium off from Sanctuary and a scheme to divert the White Foal river have been blocked by the Governor's Palace.

A number of new houses have recently been built on the open fields surrounding the estates. It's a cheap area full of young families trying to raise their kids with a bit of room to breathe. Most of them work on the nearby estates, tying the two disparate communities together. The open spaces and greenery make most professions nervous after dark, so the only problems come from the neighbouring Maze. These thugs and other nocturnal visitors are usually dealt with by the packs of large dogs roaming the streets after nightfall.

Places

  • Mariat Vineyard – The vineyard, of Bordelay grapes, is still too young to harvest, but is guarded closely, even from birds.
  • Jubals' Palace – the largest building in Crosswind belongs to Jubal. It is an extravagance of wealth over taste.
  • Molin's House – The Torchholder chose not to live in Uptown or the Avenue, but instead in a discrete out-of-town manor.
  • Logis de la Ridefort - Home to the De Ridefort family, a local merchant family

People

  • Jubal – Azurian slaver and criminal mastermind. Has lost a lot of political ground after his recent apparent death.
  • Mariat – A Bordelay winemaker and refugee from the Kingdom wars.
  • Molin Torchholder – The High Priest of Sanctuary's biggest cult is not a man to be trifled with. He is heading the movement to have Elysium cut off from Sanctuary proper, so he can sleep peacefully.
  • Marius de Ridefort - A factor for several merchant guilds in Eltrandor, Aladar, Aquila and Brandenburg.

Law

Elysium Fields is a tricky melting pot of lethal force. It is nominally controlled by the Third Command cavalry with the assistance of local estate guards. However, these guards include Jubal's Hawkmasks and Berethite followers of Molin, as well as slave overseers from all the estates. As yet, there has been no open conflict, and third-party suspects are usually handed over on request to avoid escalation.
