Pre-Newhaven History

Little is known about the history of the Chubb's Bay before the founding of Newhaven, apart from that found during investigations and artefacts discovered during the settlement.

The Elves

The earliest evidence of habitation of the Newhaven area come from a large Elven portal created from the cliff at Newhaven. The elves seem to have left the area about 2000 years ago, the last time the portal was used. An buried Elven canal that extended from the portal to the sea has been re-excavated and repaired, and now re-used for transport to and from Newhaven Castle.

Other Recent Inhabitants

There are a few signs of other minor settlements within Chubb's bay. The limestone Caves in the cliffs were inhabited by a small group of dwarves until around 25 years before Newhaven. There is also evidence of a temporary use by settlers at the southern end of the bay that look to have been driven out or killed by bands of goblins or orcs.

The Founding of Newhaven

Newhaven was first explored for settlement by Adventurers from the Seagate Adventurers Guild in 793wk, who became known as the Founders of Newhaven.

The Enchanted Years

The first years of Newhaven were a period of growth and excitement for the new immigrants, many of whom were invited to Newhaven by the Founders of Newhaven themselves, and of after missions of mercy and bravery to rid their former homelands of great evils. It was an undertaking of great risk, but those families that made the journey have been well rewarded by the rich new lands.

Logan was appointed Baron on the Founding of Newhaven. Baron Logan was generally loved by the people for his kind nature, and always had a warm welcome to all those that met him. He was considered a Baron "from the people, for the people". Amongst Logan's well liked decrees was the award of The Gift of Enchantment, bestowed on a family for exceptional service to the Barony and community. It is awarded from public nomination as part of the annual Founding Celebrations, but also by Baron Logan at other times for individual cases of exceptional service.

Logan worked closely with Engalton on matters of law and state, a partnership that worked well. (Some joked of The Barons Carrot and Stick, but never aloud.) Some thought Baron Logan soft and tried to take advantage of his good nature. Those people were invariably discovered though, and dealt with appropriately and sometimes severely through Newhaven law. Engalton was appointed Sherrif of Newhaven during this time, responsible for Law and Order. He was known to be fair, but quick in judgement and severe in punishment. Every criminal brought before him has confess totally and completely to his crimes, without fail.

There are whispered tales of how Engalton has killed people out of hand, only to later bring them back to life, then control them totally and get them to performing torturous tasks almost to their death again. Such tales have some scared into wondering about Engalton's relationships with known Orcish Necromancers, confusing to those that otherwise know Engalton as a Hero of Seagate, a well respected and fair man.

The first decade of Newhaven are sometimes referred to as the "The Enchanted Years", both in reference to the prosperity of the original immigrants to Newhaven, as well as to reference to their Baron and his gifts.

Recent Years

Baron Logan formally passed on the office of Baron of Newhaven to Engalton in 803wk after 10 years of active service.
The years since then have seen Newhaven bear a major war, with mounting tension and uncertainty for the growing community. A large influx of refugees from a nation conquered in the War did not always integrate with the local people, and put pressure on Newhaven. Tensions raised and ther was open talk of Baron Engalton imprisoning their rightful Prince for personal gain. Latest events see large Elven and Drow warships moored ominously in the harbour, while Engalton is granted the title of Count and the prince is returned to his homeland.
