These isolated and barely explored islands are situated around 7° South, 112° East.

This is a collection of rocky islands, small atolls, and hundreds of rocks and reefs.
While Needle Islands is the name applied to the whole region, the Needles themselves are seven knife-edged volcanic islets, each rising steeply from the sea like blackened spears of basalt or the spikes on a gigantic crown. Unlike most islands of the Archipelago, the Needles are not lush, sandy rings but are instead harsh, jagged outcrops of stone, sharp-crested like broken teeth.
Around these seven islands lies a maze of small atolls, reefs, and tiny pinnacles, some barely breaking the surface.
The entire area is a known graveyard for ships with half-sunken hulls visible below the waves, tangled in coral and barnacles. The ever-present danger to shipping gives rise to the island group's other name that can be found in many rutters; The Shattershoals.
Wise mariners avoid the Needles.
