Highvale
Highvale is a fortified town east of Na'fa. It is situated at the head of a long valley with the western edge sitting on the continental divide ridge line.
The main township is cut into the the eastern side of the ridge in a semi circle, so that the main part of the town is flat with the walls rising above it on the rim of the circle. The chiefdom hall sits on the ridge line overlooking the town, enabling people to look directly down into the central area. The central of the town is a hemisphere backed against the cliff face. A large semicircular pit, some 10 feet deep, is situated against the cliff face also. It is known for unfortunates to be thrown off the hall patio down into the pit, the 60 feet fall normally enough to kill them.
The town is rough but not particularly hostile, the guards fast to lay into any trouble with their glaives. They are also cheap to bribe and seldom patrol the outer alleys. Goods for purchase are generally plentiful but rarely of any quality, as theft and extortion are common so little of value is kept in the town.
The main walls are a high wooden palisade, with the main gate of similar construction. The building are poorly constructed and mostly ill maintained but all kitchens, forges or similar must be stone or brick. This rule is enforced efficiently but it is prevailing climate of continual rain which has saved the town from destruction by fire numerous times. It does however give the place a strong smell of mildew and damp to contend against the reek of non existent sanitation.
