Whispers from the Black Canopy
Bound by rope and dwindling spells, the party pressed into the dark heart of the forest. The latest nights carry them from the watchful trees to a black pool whose reflection offers a vision of betrayal, and then onward toward a sickly green pulse that seems to breathe with the forest itself.

Night 9: The Black Pool

The pool shows a delayed reflection of betrayal
The path widened into another uneasy pause, and there the party found a pool of water so black it seemed to drink the light around it. It was only fifteen feet across, still as polished glass, yet nothing about it felt natural. When the adventurers looked down, their reflections appeared a heartbeat late, copying each movement only after the moment had passed.
Then the reflections stopped copying them at all. The dark surface showed the party standing somewhere else, in a clearing dusted with ash. In that vision, Ichalon drew his ninjato and struck one of his companions while the words "finally get to..." hung unfinished in the air. Whether prophecy, warning, or manipulation, the image left the company shaken. The forest had found a new way to speak: not with a whisper in the fog, but with the possibility of betrayal.
Night 10: The Green Pulse

The party approaches the sickly green pulse at the forest core
After the pool, the forest allowed no easy retreat into certainty. The path stretched onward, widening briefly before narrowing again between dark trunks. The ground changed underfoot, growing soft and ashen, as though every step pressed into the remains of something long burned away.
Ahead, a sickly green light pulsed through the trees. It did not shine like a lantern or spell, but throbbed with the rhythm of something alive. With it came a deep resonant inhaling sound, vast and slow, as if the forest itself were drawing breath. The party pressed toward it with dwindling magic, fatigue gathering at their shoulders, and the knowledge that whatever waited ahead might be the heart of the darkness, a guardian, a trap, or the thing that had been testing them all along.

Unresolved Threads
- What does the pool vision mean for Ichalon and the party?
- Is the green pulse the source of the forest disturbance or another test before the true source?

Buffs & Mil Sci
- TBC - Review current spells, marching order, rope order, and military scientist notes before moving this to the campaign page.
GM Review Notes
- Test output generated from Scribe Notes Reader Mode chapters 9 and 10 using the updated DQWiki house-style template.
- Images are embedded within each night section rather than placed in a separate gallery.
- Review character spellings, especially Ichalon/Echelon, before copying to Shadows In Play.
- Confirm whether the green pulse should be described as the forest core, a guardian, or an unknown phenomenon.
