The Dreamer’s Stage
The party made their way into Guild meeting room 5 and we met with a strange sight, a softly glowing, large blue crystal was sitting in the middle of the table, beside the guild paperwork. One we had dispensed with the guild paperwork and introductions a guild scribe joined us and explained she, and all the other scribes had had the same dream for weeks, which pointed them to a location. A low level party were dispatched and they recovered the crystal that was sitting in the centre of the meeting room table. The dreams continued, disrupting the sleep of the scribes, the crystal was an invitation for a competition and they really needed to send someone through. Us.
We spent some time examining the crystal, not obtaining much information, before we turned matters to preparation, only to discover we could not leave the meeting room or communicate with anyone outside it. As we cast various magics to explore our situation we noticed there were tendrils growing from the crystals with each cast. Deciding the crystal was getting impatient almost everyone took a chair around the table and closed their eye, Sabastian decided to stand heroically and close his eye, regretting it as he slowly fell unconscious and fell to the ground.
The party found themselves seated on comfortable seats in box in an ornate theatre. Jaycey hung off the edge of the box staring the main circle at a strange variety of people sitting there, it was a mix of different species, dressed in wildly different outfits – they were clearly adventures too. Before we could speak to people the lights dimmer and the stage filled with purple smoke. All attention in the theatre focused on the stage as a figure dressed in black stepped out. <inset the image>
The figure explained he was the Oracle, and represented his master, the Dreamer, and we are at his showcase. There will be a series of tasks, large and small, in a dream scape. None of the people are real but think they are. If we died we will eventually be returned here. We may choose to work with, or against, the other adventurers.
We depart the box and find ourselves in a corridor, we are load to another mysterious figure, called the Weave, leads us to a room filled with ornate furniture that he explains is ours, no other adventure can enter. The room has a number of interesting features; has a c which fills with any food you think of – Sabastian seats himself by the cupboard and starts eating, and another small store room that apparently completely heals, and bestowing a Greate, on anyone that enters. The promise of rewards was not enough for some, Jaycey wanted to see the cold hard cash!
The Weave explained out room was now connected to a large meeting room where all the adventures could mingle. We quickly decided to make friends and work with the other parties, particularly we there were some tasks that required other parties. Heading out Lim was able to produce a variety or exceptionally alcohol, and Jaycey produced and amazing variety of food. Jaycey, Sabastian and Vixen mingle, talking to each group, offering they some tasty Hors d'oeuvre,a nd making some allies. It’s a wild variety of people with some very strange and powerful people. We talk about the Avatar level aura and some mind control on Jaycey when we make out way back into our room.
The party gathered in Guild Meeting Room Five, only to be met with a peculiar sight: a softly glowing, large blue crystal sat at the centre of the table beside the usual guild paperwork. Once introductions were made and the paperwork dispensed with, a guild scribe entered to explain the matter at hand. She revealed that she—and every other scribe in the Guild—had been plagued by the same recurring dream for weeks. The visions pointed them to a particular location, where a low-level party had been dispatched. That party had recovered the very crystal that now gleamed in front of us.
Yet the dreams did not stop. The scribes remained restless, their sleep disrupted night after night. The crystal, it seemed, was not merely an artifact but an invitation—to a competition. And now, someone had to go through. That someone was us.
We examined the crystal, but it yielded little information. As we debated preparations, we quickly discovered we could neither leave the meeting room nor communicate beyond its walls. Each attempt at magic only caused tendrils to sprout from the crystal, stretching further with every spell cast. Deciding the crystal was growing impatient, we resigned ourselves to the inevitable. Most of us took seats around the table, closing our eyes. Sebastian, in his usual dramatic flair, insisted on standing heroically—only to regret that as he lost conscious and began to collapse to the floor.
When next we opened our eyes, we were seated in plush chairs within a private box overlooking an ornate theatre. Jaycey leaned eagerly over the railing, staring at the strange gathering below: a motley crowd of adventurers from every species and culture imaginable, clad in wildly different attire. Before we could attempt conversation, the lights dimmed. Purple smoke flooded the stage. Out of it emerged a tall figure robed in black.
They introduced himself as the Oracle, emissary of his master, the Dreamer. We were told this was the Dreamer’s showcase, a series of trials both large and small, to be conducted within the Dreamscape. Anyone in the Dreamscape are no more real than the dream itself—though they believed they were. Death, we were assured, was temporary: those who fell would eventually return here. We could work with the other adventurers, or against them. The choice was ours.
Led from our box, we met another mysterious figure known only as the Weave. He guided us to a chamber lavishly furnished, which he explained was ours alone. No other adventurers could enter. The room had remarkable features: a cupboard that conjured any food one imagined (which Sebastian immediately claimed as his throne, eating without pause), and a small side room that not only healed but bestowed a Greater Enchantment upon anyone who entered. While the Weave spoke of rewards, Jaycey remained sceptical, demanding to we wanted to see e “the cold hard cash.”
The Weave also explained that our chamber was now connected to a great hall where all the adventurers might mingle. Recognizing the value of alliances, we resolved to make friends. Lim produced an array of extraordinary spirits, while Jaycey conjured an astonishing spread of delicacies. Together with Sebastian and Vixen, they circulated among the crowd, offering hors d’oeuvres and drinks, and striking up conversation with the eclectic and powerful individuals assembled. The hall was a whirl of strange magic, peculiar personalities, and formidable presences.
By the time we returned to our chamber, we had forged some tentative alliances. Jaycey, however, was less concerned with philosophy than with her recent experience: the unsettling weight of one of the individuals with Avatar-level auras tried to control her perception of him
