Hiya all, 
I would like to see the campaign committee do more hands on stuff. To this end, why not create a sheet of events and as GMs to pop them into games. Set odd and normal events maybe. 

Weather 
Major deaths births 
Unrest of people/populations 
Attide to the guild and why? 
Problems in areas with X 
Normal major social events - balls etc 

Talk to the GMs before they take their parties out - asking them location of party impact, and inform the GM of any event that is happening/needing fore shadowing etc. 

I feel this would be useful right away.

I also think that the "now" old guard (which are currently on the committee) could look at activitly inviting new blood from newer Players/GMs into the group.

I think the suggestions made by Jono is excellent and fall within what I perceive as the mandate of the Campaign Committee. Simple events is shared space would be a good start. i.e. the weather in Seagate, a strike on the docks.

With the exception of the weather, which I agree is a good idea, all the other items are already on my list of things to discuss with the committee.
